Bach in a non-European vein
Founded in 1990, the Bach Collegium Japan is just what its name implies — a collective of Japanese instrumentalists and vocalists dedicated to historically informed performances of music from the German Baroque, with J.S. Bach naturally first and foremost on the agenda.
The one exception is the solo cantata “Mein Herz schwimmt im Blut,” with soprano Joanne Lunn as soloist; otherwise, Suzuki will conduct the Fifth “Brandenburg” Concerto, the Concerto in A for oboe d’amore, and Trio Sonata in C Minor from “The Musical Offering.”
