Mother and son found wounded on northern Vermont road
HOLLAND, Vt. (AP) — Vermont State Police investigators are trying to determine the identity of the suspect or suspects who shot and wounded a mother and son on a remote backroad in the town of Holland.
Troopers were called Saturday night to School Road in the town along the Canadian border for what police initially believed was a motor vehicle crash, police said in a news release.
First responders found two people in the vehicle suffering what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The two were later taken to North Country Hospital in Newport and then transferred to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
A 38-year-old man from Derby Line is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the torso. His 57-year-old mother, also from Derby Line, is in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the arm, police said.
Police say it appears the two people were targeted.
The investigation is continuing.
