Russian region of Dagestan holds a day of mourning after attacks kill 19 people

Russia’s southern region of Dagestan is holding the first of three days of mourning following a rampage by Islamic militants that killed 19 people, most of them police, and attacked houses of worship in apparently coordinated assaults in two cities. Sunday’s violence was the latest that officials blamed on Islamic extremists in the predominantly Muslim region in the North Caucasus. A predawn operation has rescued 77 migrants from a crippled yacht off Greece's Aegean Sea islands

Greek authorities say a group of 77 migrants has been rescued off a crippled sailing yacht after a large overnight operation in the southern Aegean Sea. Nobody has been reported missing or injured following the rescue between the islands of Amorgos and Astypalaia. Greece's coast guard says three of its vessels, four merchant ships and two smaller private boats took part in the operation. Fire at lithium battery factory in South Korea kills 9, leaving 15 others missing

A fire at a lithium battery manufacturing factory near South Korea’s capital has killed at least nine people. Four were injured and 15 are missing. The fire occurred in Hwaseong city, just south of Seoul, A fire official said most of the missing people were foreign nationals including Chinese. South Korean media reported that much of the blaze had been put out. The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known. A total of 102 people were working at the factory before the fire occurred.

Suspected Yemen Houthi attack targets vessel in waters further away than many previous assaults

A possible attack by Yemen’s Houthi rebels has targeted a ship further away from nearly all of the previous assaults they’ve launched in the Gulf of Aden. The attack happened Monday morning some 450 kilometers southeast of Nishtun, a town in the far reaches of Yemen that’s close to the border with Oman. That's according to the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center. The ship saw explosions, but its crew was reportedly safe.
