A pedestrian who walked into the northbound lanes of Interstate 880 in Oakland was struck and killed by a car Tuesday morning, the California Highway Patrol said. The fatality prompted the CHP to shut down lanes on Interstate 880, near the Interstate 980 interchange, causing a huge traffic jam. By 8:30 a.m., CHP officers had reopened all lanes.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — The odds don't look good for the latest effort to authorize a casino in New Hampshire, yet a quirky bill would give adults another way to gamble: children's bingo games. Republican Rep. James Webb, of Derry, wants to allow adults to join the children's games, with some restrictions.
