«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

Worth seeing at the movies, Jan. 1 Christian Bale and Steve Carell are superb as hedge fund managers too sane and too eccentric not to admit the truth when they see it. Rated R. 130 minutes. Rated PG-13. 141 minutes. Rich in emotion and period detail, this story of a young Irish woman (Saoirse Ronan)... Читать дальше...

The participation rate was about 91 percent in Washington state after many high school juniors refused to take the exams. Preliminary data showed more than three-quarters of juniors in the Bainbridge Island, Issaquah, Enumclaw and Snoqualmie Valley school districts refused to take the tests.

Mavericks praise Warriors — with or without Curry

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

DALLAS - Warriors point guard Stephen Curry is officially listed as questionable for Wednesday night’s game against the Mavericks because of a left lower leg injury, which he means there’s about an equal chance that he will start and play his usual 34-35 minutes or he’ll sit and watch for the first time this season. Obama, lawmakers see centennial as chance to boost parks

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

The Obama administration and Republican lawmakers have vastly different ideas about what to do. Areas of agreement include lifting the price of the $10 lifetime park pass for seniors to $80 and enacting a lodging tax for those who stay overnight, though how much and whether it should apply to campers as well as hotel guests, will have to be worked out in the months ahead. Prosecutors defend urging no charges in Tamir Rice shooting

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

McGinty said the Department of Justice's U.S. Attorney's manual says a prosecutor must tell a grand jury when substantial evidence refutes the guilt of the target in the investigation. Two Democratic state lawmakers in Ohio said Wednesday they plan to propose legislation that would require at least two outside law enforcement officials to conduct investigations when a police officer uses deadly force.

Add to that he’s dying of lung cancer for years, yet he stays fat. If he’d been struck by lightning, he’d have an excuse to stay fat. [...] with a lingering, wasting illness over the course of years ... it was surprising to see Louis C.K., supposedly on his deathbed, looking no sicker than a guy who’d eaten everything in sight and was now waiting for the Alka-Seltzer to kick in.
