Ex-Trump aide says Republicans are lying to their own voters
Speaking to veteran ABC News journalist Jonathan Karl, "The View's" hosts addressed several questions they had about the state of the 2024 presidential campaign — and what they'd watched unfold over the past several months.
Among the most outspoken was former Donald Trump White House communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin, who has since denounced the former president and pledged to work to defeat him.
"Republican leaders lying to their base, and most bought into the 'big lie,' and if their leaders in office are saying the election was stolen, I won't blame voters for believing the people in power," Griffin said.
"But the question I want to ask is kid of the Biden of all of this — 91 felony counts, four different indictments, held liable for sexual assault, Donald Trump is a uniquely unfit, unprincipled man. Yet The New York Times/Siena polling from this weekend and prior ABC polling has him beating Joe Biden head-to-head outside of the margin of error.
"Is Joe Biden running scared enough?"

She noted that Biden says things like he's beaten Trump before and he can do it again. But Griffin said it sounds like, "I alone can fix it." She fears that Biden and the Democrats aren't worried enough.
Karl explained that if the polls were right, then Hillary Clinton would be about to hand over the baton.
"It's several recent polls. The current FiveThirtyEight and Trump have a two-point lead over Biden. Four years ago, on Super Tuesday of 2020, Biden had a two-point lead over Trump. So, he's starting, you know, certainly from a deficit, but first of all, you know this well. Don't put too much stock into what polls tell you today."
Whoopi Goldberg proclaimed, "Thank you!" and begged him to repeat the comment.
Sunny Hostin pointed out that Barack Obama's polls were about where Biden's are now as he was going into 2012. Karl also noted that Trump hasn't done a lot of campaign work, thus far. Most of his time has been spent handling his court cases.
