Man found unpleasant stinging surprise in his boxers while staying at hotel

There are a few things you expect or hope to find in your hotel room – clean towels, bottled water, and a chocolate on your pillow among them.

But one Las Vegas hotel guest got more than he bargained for when he found a scorpion in his underwear.

Michael Farchi was staying at the Venetian hotel in the Nevada city when he was rudely woken up to the pain of the venomous creature stinging his testicles multiple times.

He explained: ‘I woke up with a sharp pain in my private area. I was surprised.

‘I reached my hand to see what’s happening over there under the cover, and I got another sharp pain, another sharp pain.’

Michael was stung three to four times by the scorpion as he attempted to remove the insect predator from his underwear, MailOnline reports.

He’s now suing the hotel following reports that waves of scorpions – including America’s most lethal species, the Arizona bark scorpion – are invading homes across Las Vegas.

In Michael’s pictures, the scorpion was a warm, bright yellow hue — similar in coloring to the Arizona bark scorpion — although he said his attacker was considerably smaller.

One local says he’s killed more than 22 of the stinging creatures in recent months, and reckons they’re sneaking into the city aboard palm trees imported for landscaping projects.

‘The Las Vegas area has many types of scorpions — 23 to be exact,’ according to Global Pest Services of Las Vegas. ‘Most of the scorpion species we see here are not something to worry about.

‘The Arizona bark scorpion is venomous and dangerous to young children, the elderly, people that are in poor health, and those that suffer an allergic reaction to the sting.’ 

Michael is suing the Venetian with the help of Las Vegas-area ‘Bed Bug Lawyer’ Brian Virag, who noted that this was not the first incident wherein scorpions have been discovered invading guests’ rooms at the Venetian.

‘Nobody staying in Vegas needs to be exposed to deadly scorpions while they’re sleeping, let alone on their private parts, their testicles,’ the lawyer said.

Although a public statement from the Venetian said ‘the resort has protocols for all incidents and we can confirm they were followed in this incident,’ Michael recalled total indifference from the staff on the day of the attack.

He explained: ‘The [Venetian] Palazzo didn’t even apologize for what happened when I met with the hotel manager.

‘They just charge me for my room, the restaurant and whatever I used. No apologies. No nothing.’

Scorpion sightings in Las Vegas tend to spike annually ‘with long hot summers stretching from March till fall,’ according to Global Pest Services. 

However, the Arizona bark scorpion thrives in the cooler, climate-controlled environment of the city’s buildings, causing concerns with locals.

The Global Pest Services spokesperson added: ‘These months mark peak scorpion activity periods in Las Vegas. The warm summer desert climate provides an ideal habitat for scorpions to thrive.

‘Unlike most scorpions, the Arizona bark scorpion stays around moist, wet areas — like a backyard pool […] in kitchens and bathrooms under the sinks.’
