Hundreds of toilet paper rolls clog highway after spilling off truck

Loo roll spilled off a truck and clogged a California highway for hours.

A truck carrying loads of toilet paper spilled hundreds of rolls and clogged a major highway.

Roughly three huge boxes of loo roll fell off a Ford F-350 onto the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Newhall, California, and blocked two lanes of traffic for hours, stated the California Highway Patrol.

Images from the scene in Los Angeles County showed countless rolls of toilet paper strewn across the asphalt and patrol officers standing in the lanes picking them up.

Footage from SKY Fox showed four officers throwing the rolls across a median to clear the roadway as their patrol cars blocked traffic on the affected lanes. Boxes were also littered on the road.

Officers cleared the highway of the rolls within about 20 minutes on Monday morning, according to the agency.

Still, some social media users joked about the bizarre accident.

‘How appropriate,’ wrote a user. ‘The entire state is in the toilet.’

Another user remarked: ‘If this happened a few years ago there’d be a brawl on the freeway.’

The truck driver’s identity and what led to the spill were not immediately known.

Newhall is about 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

It happened nearly two years after a lorry driver was caught short after crashing into a low bridge in Hither Green, Lewisham, southeast London, and spilled a load of loo roll during rush hour. Several surrounding roads were closed to traffic for the clean-up effort and motorists were told to avoid the area. The lorry driver, who was not injured, apparently did not see a large yellow sign warning of the low bridge.

Also in April 2022, a crash scene on Interstate 70 in Callaway County in Missouri resulted in 500 pounds of marijuana falling onto the highway. Images showed dozens of white sacks full of weed strewn scattered around. No one was injured in the incident.
