Brilliant advert in New Zealand tells families to talk to their kids about porn

The New Zealand government has released a new advert urging young Kiwis not to rely on porn for sex education.
The video, launched to promote the country’s ‘Keep it real online’ campaign, sees two nude porn stars knock on the door of a family’s house to speak to a boy’s mum.
The woman at the door says: ‘Hiya, I’m Sue. This is Derek. We’re here because your son just looked us up online – you know, to watch us.
‘You know, on his laptop, iPad, PlayStation, his phone, your phone, smart TV projector – anyway, we usually perform for adults but your son’s just a kid.
‘He might not know how relationships actually work. We don’t even talk about consent, do we? No, we just get straight to it.’
‘And I’d never act like that in real life,’ the character Derek adds.
The son then appears at the door – who is clearly shocked at the arrival of the couple he had been watching online just moments beforehand.
The young boy’s mum, Sandra, then says: ‘Alright Matty, it sounds like it’s time to have a talk about the difference between what you see online and real-life relationships. No judgement.’
The advert, which has been highly praised online, then encourages families to get help and advice online about pornography and relationships by visiting the New Zealand government’s keep it real website.
The website says: ‘In today’s digital world it’s very easy for children to come across pornography. This can happen by accident, as most sites are free and don’t require any type of age verification, or intentionally out of curiosity.
‘While children might see porn for the first time by accident, teens are more likely to be seeking it out.
‘It’s normal for young people to be curious about sex. The best way to support them is to have open, honest conversations about what they might see and how it’s different from real sex and relationships.
‘It can be challenging to talk to your child about porn. Conversations about sex and pornography can be awkward and you might feel like you have no idea where to start.’
The website also offers the following advice:

- Listen to what they say
- Let them know porn doesn’t reflect reality
- Discuss sexual consent and respect
- Be patient
