What the future of plane travel will look like after coronavirus

In a post-Covid world, many will be feeling uneasy at the prospect of sitting beside a stranger on a plane for several hours.
After coronavirus ripped across the world, airlines have had the tricky task of making sure their cabins are safe for customers in the future. One solution has been devised by a UK aircraft interior firm which is ready to go for mid-June if authorities give it the green light.
The personal protection window (PPW) made by RAS Completions is expected to provide the best of both worlds. It’s designed to stop you coughing and spluttering over your neighbour’s shoulder, but it’ll still let nervous flyers hold hands with their significant others for take off and landing.
The screen made from ‘transparent aircraft-approved polycarbonate’ has been backed by British GPs, who say it is especially safe when used in combination with face masks and other measures preventing the transmission of coronavirus carrying water droplets.
Based at London Baggin Hill Airport, enable airlines to safely resume service without removing or blocking out the middle seat say their shields can be attached on the back and sides of all types and can be reclined to adjust for children and larger adults.

The firm adds: ‘It does not interfere with safety procedures and the installation process is straightforward, meaning airlines will not need to reconfigure their aircraft interiors.’
It says the PPW could be ready to go in a matter of days if approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The company has a network of approved suppliers around the world who are ready to produce the screens, reports MailOnline.
RAS Completions business development manager Roger Patron said: ‘The team was inspired to create a solution for struggling airlines following the work we have been doing during the pandemic, converting aircraft for medevac use.
‘So far, protection solutions all remove the use of the middle seat, which isn’t a viable, long-term financial option for most airlines. Our new PPW gives airlines a choice.
‘We want to give people the confidence to return to the skies, and firmly believe this product will help them to feel protected while retaining much of the flying experience they are used to.’
London Biggin Hill Airport marketing manager Andy Patsalides said: ‘This new seat shield is bringing a practical, low-cost solution to airlines at a critical moment.’
