Man left so bored by lockdown he started building picnic tables for squirrels
Amateur woodworker Juan Najera's tables have been a huge hit with family and friends
An amateur woodworker was left so bored by the ongoing coronavirus lockdown he began building picnic tables for squirrels. Refrigeration worker Juan Najera, from Sacramento in California, decided to use his free time to fashion the miniaturized garden furniture from pieces of scrap wood.
He shared photos of a squirrel visiting a nut-laden table in his garden, with the photo proving such a hit that Najera was inundated with requests from others asking for their own squirrel picnic tables. Najera told CBS Sacramento: ‘People were going nuts for it…
‘I’ve handed out 75 of them. I have 43 on a waiting list as of this morning.’ Najera is letting people who live near him order the tables through the NextDoor app, and loves receiving pictures from others showing squirrels using his furniture in their gardens.
He said: ‘You set it outside, you can put a little treat. Squirrels come up, birds come up.’
