Armenian President: Security of Armenians and Greeks is interlinked
Serzh Sargsyan made this statement as he spoke to journalists after the meeting with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Athens today.
“Military sphere became a traditional direction of our cooperation, and today we continue to broaden our partnership. I took this opportunity to thank Greek government for supporting Armenia in political and military education for years. Over 200 Armenian servicemen and army officers received education in Greece in last 20 years. This is the base that will allow to mark more and more new achievements in this area in the future. We should never stray from the realization that the safety of our two peoples is interlinked,” said Armenian President.
Serzh Sargsyan also appreciated the principled position that Greece keeps on recognition and condemnation of the crime of Genocide.
Alexis Tsipras in his turn considered the development of Iran-Armenia-Greece trilateral partnership to be perspective, taking into account warm, friendly relations between Iran and Armenia. He observed that his country has experience in such trilateral cooperation in Greece-Cyprus-Israel and Greece-Cyprus-Egypt formats, which work efficiently in his estimation.
According to Greek Prime Minister, Athens also sees opportunities in establishing cooperation between EU and EAEU, and wishes to promote it when necessary. Greek PM expressed readiness on his country’s behalf to promote development of Armenia-EU relations.
Touching upon NKR conflict settlement, Alexis Tsipras noticed that Greece supports the preaceful and diplomatic settlement of this issue within OSCE Minsk Group.
At the end of Armenian-Greek negotiations, projects on cooperation between Armenia and Greece in public health and medicine in 2016-2018, in culture in 2016-2020, and in education and research in 2016-2020 were signed.
Armenian President invited Greek Prime Minister to visit Armenia, and Alexis Tsipras accepted the invitation.
