Pashinyan: No change of balance after Azerbaijan’s actions

The Prime Minister stated at the National Assembly that Azerbaijan has occupied the 41 square kilometers of Armenia since May 12.

“It is not that the territory is completely and fully controlled by the Azerbaijani armed forces. Due to the process that took place after May 12, our and Azerbaijani positions in different parts have been arranged in a checkerboard way, sometimes clashing into each other. Even before May 12, about 40 and more square kilometers of Armenia were under the control of Azerbaijan, as a result of the first war. Also as a result of the first war, there are territories of Soviet Azerbaijan, which were and are under control of Armenia. These circumstances make the process of demarcation and delimitation very important,” Pashinyan said.

He stressed that the international community expects Armenia and Azerbaijan to start discussing, finding formulas for solutions and putting the process on the rails of solution.

“As long as these situations exist, the international community views them as a source of tension. We accept the message of the international community,” he said.

Nikol Pashinyan noted that the process of delimitation and demarcation has not advanced due to Azerbaijan’s delay or absence of a concrete response.

“I stated back at the May 2021 cabinet sitting that I am ready to sign the proposal on the table at that time on starting the process of demarcation and delimitation. In May and after it Russia three times came up with proposal and we have agreed all these three times to move forward with that process. I think the peaceful resolution of the border situation is extremely important and our previously made proposals are still in force, including about the start of a delimitation and demarcation process,” he said.
