Pashinyan responds to Aliyev’s latest statements
Nikol Pashinyan said this at the government session, commenting to Azerbaijan’s actions and statements made in recent months.
Here are excerpts from the acting Prime Minister’s statement.
“What we predicted has happened”
After the snap parliamentary elections, what we predicted has happened. Azerbaijan, in spite of its peace-loving statements in the international arena, is doing everything to hinder peace in the region.
Azerbaijan shows that Armenia or Artsakh are supposedly against peace, against demarcation and delimitation processes, and on this background Azerbaijan will create false justifications for building an aggressive policy, the manifestation of which we are witnessing.
Trilateral working group and the “Zangezur corridor”
The working group at the level of Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani deputy PMs is carrying out quite constructive and effective work aimed at opening regional infrastructure. Azerbaijan's statements on the so-called Zangezur Corridor have nothing to do with the work done by the group and the content of January 11 Moscow trilateral statement.
Azerbaijan is making statements on the corridor to disrupt the work of the trilateral working group and prevent the opening of regional communications, as Azerbaijan aims to continue its 30-year-old policy of Armenia’s blockade.
But we will continue to work within the trilateral working group to break Armenia’s blockade. With the support of Russia and international partners, we will achieve the opening of regional infrastructure, that is, the unblocking of Armenia.
The mediators’ statement and Armenia’s position
Armenia has repeatedly publicly welcomed the April 13 statement of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. It is nothing but a proposal for a roadmap for peace in the region.
Armenia welcomed this statement and responded positively to the provisions mentioned in it. Armenia is ready to resume the peace process in the format and content specified in the Co-Chairs’ statement.
I think, instead of destructive actions and statements, the Azerbaijani leadership would better heed the mediators’ calls and also express a clear position on the Co-Chairs’ statement.
It is clear that we will diligently pursue the realization of the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination. If we add to all this the provocative statements of Azerbaijan threatening Armenia’s territorial integrity, it becomes obvious which country is hindering the establishment of regional stability and peace.
Launch of CSTO mechanisms
Armenia will defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity by all means, including the launch of the Armenian-Russian joint military group and the CSTO mechanisms, around which we continue consultations with our partners. In the last two months, we have had two casualties on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. I draw the attention of our CSTO partners and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to this fact.
