China, US want peace
By AFP/PNA/Kyodo Beijing – Maritime disputes should be settled in peaceful and “appropriate manner,” according to superpowers China and the United States. Chinese President Xi Jinping said yesterday that China and the US must deal with “sensitive” issues and differences in their opinions in an appropriate manner, apparently referring to the South China Sea dispute. On the other hand, US Secretary of State John Kerry called on all parties to follow international law and rules in addressing the issue and expressed hope that China will resolve the matter peacefully. While the US and China remain at odds over the South China Sea dispute, both superpowers believe that peaceful settlement of the maritime dispute is the best option to resolve the problem.
