Team Alpha wins ‘SICAT Olympics’
Sual, Pangasinan — The Skills Improvement in Control Analysis Tournament or “SICAT Olympics” was held here, recently, pitting four teams of the Sual Power Station’s (SPS) Operations Group against one another in a one-of-a-kind competition. Sual, Pangasinan (Photo courtesy of Google Maps) Teams Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta were tasked to solve a simulated plant situation wherein they have to keep the plant from tripping. The skills competition, patterned after the Tokyo Electric Power’s (TEPCO) own skills tournament, is aimed at enhancing the skills of plant operators to prevent any break-down in plant operations and ensure an adequate power supply to the Luzon grid. The 1,200-megawatt SPS is one of the biggest power plants in the country. Testing the operator’s skills in control analysis by responding appropriately to technical issues to prevent the unit’s possible deration, tripping, or down time, the tournament was won by Team Alpha.
