‘Super team’ ECHO shows might, opens MPL S9 with emphatic win over Bren
ECHO was quick to silence its doubters as it demolished Bren Esports with a 2-0 sweep for an emphatic start to its MPL Philippines Season 9 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 19.
The star-studded cast proved that its ‘super team’ tag was not just on paper as ECHO quickly translated it to a dominant sweep of the rookie-laden Bren.
The super team lived up to the billing in its opening game as it destroyed Bren 21-13 behind the nonstop aggression from ECHO.
The individual mechanics of every ECHO player was in full display, especially during team fights where it dissected the Bren during team fights, evident in the first Lord clash at the 10-minute mark in the opening game.
Bren was able to secure the Lord but in exchange for its two heroes. ECHO, however, refused to stop as it went on to hunt down Super Marco’s Alice.
That has been the running theme in the opening game as Bren repeatedly lost during full five-on-five team fights.
Jankurt “Kurtzy” Matira led the onslaught with an 8-1-4 KDA on his Vale while Karl “Karltzy” Nepomuceno haunted his former squad with his signature Lancelot, finishing with a 5-3-9 line. Bren scored a 21-13 demolition of Bren in Game 1 to take the first point of the series
Oozing with confidence from the first game triumph, ECHO showed no mercy in the Game 2 as it put up a dominant 12-5 victory in the series clincher. ECHO was unstoppable in that game as it pushed Bren to tight positions and force them engage on team fights.
Bren showed flashes of brilliance as it managed to stand tooth-and-nails against ECHO in the team fights. The much-seasoned players, however, came through with clutch plays one after another to stop Bren in two games.
Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera who initiated the team fights using his tank Chou, finished with a neat 4-0-7 score line while Karltzy unloaded a 5-1-4 score line on the Yi sun-shin.
