U.S. stocks open slightly higher; Nasdaq hits record
The Nasdaq Composite hit a fresh record at the open on Monday, while modest opening gains on the S&P 500 put the benchmark index within shouting distance of all-time closing high. U.S. stocks' march higher was supported by upbeat earnings reports. The Nasdaq Composite began the day up 12 points, or 0.2% at 5,221. The S&P 500 opened 2 points, or 0.1%, higher at 2,129, a point below its record closing level. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 22 points, or 0.1%, to 18,109.
