Significant Severe Threat for Acadiana Wednesday Morning
A significant and dangerous severe weather event could unfold Wednesday morning across Acadiana into southern Mississippi as intense tornadoes are possible. The Storm Prediction Center has an "Enhanced" to "Moderate" Risk for our area. These are considered Level 3 and Level 4 out of 5 for the likelihood of severe storms within your area. Based on model trends this morning, more of Acadiana may get upgraded into the Moderate Risk.
Futuretrack shows heavy widespread rains and intense storms moving into Acadiana after 5:00 am Wednesday. All modes of severe weather are possible, if not likely, as these storms produce damaging winds, tornadoes, and large hail. There is a risk for localized flash flooding as some areas may get over 4" inches of rainfall in a short period of time.
Unfortunately, models are showing high values on the Tornado Threat Index. This is a good indication of the wind shear in the atmosphere combined with other products. In this type of environment, and considering the high values, tornadoes could easily form. Also, the threat of strong and long-tracked tornadoes is more likely. Model trends have moved these higher values west into more of Acadiana. The next SPC Outlook update for Day 2 will occur at approximately 12:30 pm today.
