Turkey’s Interior Minister announced the detention of 1,456 “illegal migrants” during the Eid al-Adha holiday, scattered across 60 cities in Turkey, although he did not specify their nationalities.
The crackdown on Afghan migrants has intensified in Turkey, Pakistan, and Iran, with reports of increasing deportations and detentions.
Earlier, Turkish authorities reported the detention of 1,177 “illegal migrants” from 30 cities across the country.
According to Turkey’s Ministry of Interior, in 2023 alone, 68,687 Afghan migrants were detained, and a significant number of them were subsequently deported.
Amidst dire humanitarian conditions and persecution in Afghanistan, Afghan migrants face forced deportations from neighboring countries despite the precarious situation in their home country.
Lack of amenities, economic opportunities, and security concerns continue to push Afghan migrants to seek refuge abroad, leading to their detention and deportation from various countries in the region.
