Local sources in Badakhshan province reported a fire outbreak in the Kishim district of the province, stating that as a result, several gold shops were damaged, inflicting significant financial losses on their owners.
According to a source, the fire broke out around midnight on Friday in the “Medina” market area of Kishim district in Badakhshan province, resulting in the burning of more than five gold shops and over 50 clothing stalls.
Eyewitnesses identify the cause of the fire as an “electrical short circuit.”
Mohammad Jan, the owner of one of the gold shops, told a reporter that over 20 lakh Afghanis of his shop’s capital were lost, and most of his shop’s belongings were looted during evacuation.
Khalil, the market official, stated that the total financial damage from the fire has not been determined yet, but he considers it significant.
Efforts were made to speak with the authorities of this district, but they were not willing to provide further details.
In addition to the reported incidents, Afghanistan continues to grapple with a dire humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the resurgence of the Taliban since August 2021.
The situation has led to widespread displacement, food insecurity, and limited access to healthcare and education, particularly affecting vulnerable groups such as women and children.
