On Camera: Andhra Bride’s Family Attempts To ‘Abduct’ Her From Wedding Venue, Hurl Chilli Powder At Rescuers
A bride's family tried to kidnap her from the wedding venue in a village of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh and hurled chilli powder at guest who tried to intervene.
Andhra Pradesh News: In a bizarre incident, a family in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh attempted to disrupt their daughter’s wedding by trying to ‘kidnap’ the bride from the wedding venue and hurled chilli powder at people who tried to intervene.
According to reports, the incident took place in the Kadiam village near Rajahmundry on Sunday (April 21), and was filmed by someone at the event, and shared on social media platforms.
The clip, which quickly went viral, showed, the bride’s mother, brother, and cousins dragging her away as she tries to break free from their clutches while the groom is seen clinging tightly to her.

In the video, some guests are seen trying to intervene but the bride’s family throws chilli powder, forcing them to retreat. The bride is heard screaming to let her go, but her family remains undeterred by her cries and drags her away, while the groom is trying to rescue her.
Ultimately, the bride’s family’s efforts were thwarted by the groom along with his friends and relatives, and one person, reportedly, a friend of the groom, also received grievous injuries in the rescue bid.
What happened?
As per local media reports, the woman, Gangavaram Sneha, a resident of Kurnool district, and Battina Venkatanandu, were in love and wanted to get married. The union was opposed by the girl’s family, however, the she defied her parents, and the couple tied the knot at temple on April 13, earlier this month.
Later, the groom’s family gave their blessings and consented to the marriage, and on Sunday, had organized a formal ceremony at a function hall in Kadiam village to formally celebrate their son’s wedding,
However, the chaos erupted when the bride’s family stormed the event and attempted to drag their daughter away from the menu.
Police said they have registered a case against the accused and charged them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including assault, attempted kidnapping, and theft of gold.
A police official said the family motive for opposing their daughter wedding to her boyfriend remains unclear and is being investigated.
