Doc Rivers on the Rudy Gobert deal: 'I don’t think anyone’s laughing at that trade anymore'
Rivers said it look them a year to figure out how to utilize their size and mentioned how the Timberwolves’ trade for Rudy Gobert was widely ridiculed last season. “I don’t think anyone’s laughing at that trade anymore,” Rivers said. “They’re just so long, and they play hard, too. Like I was really impressed with that late in the game when they still had their starters off. They were fighting through screens, they were getting frustrated that AJ (Green) was making shots, you know, it’s a team that you can see that thinks they have a chance.”

Big fan of the feel of the Wolves offensive space when Rudy Gobert starts in the slot.
He’s starting to find ways to provide value from out there outside of just being a screener — timely crash here in the first clip, then drives the seam when they ignore him in the second clip pic.twitter.com/PY49Yqpm8e – 10:06 AM

It sure hasn’t taken Doc Rivers long to flex his clout. The Beverley trade has his fingerprints all over it. – 10:00 AM

Asked Rudy Gobert what he thinks Monte Morris will bring to the Wolves:
“I think he’s a very smart basketball player. I think he takes care of the ball. I think he makes the right play. I saw that he can throw some lobs, too, so I was like OK.” – 11:53 PM

Christopher Hine: Rudy Gobert: “We got to find a way to forget about the score and just be dogs for 48 minutes. Also, once again, too much talking to the officials. They’re not going to get better. I think we got to focus on ourselves.” -via Twitter @ChristopherHine / February 7, 2024

Williamson addressed the breakdowns defensively, especially the mental errors and lack of effort that allowed Orlando to score 17 points in transition and get to the line for 17 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter alone. Then the players started to talk. Conley was first, focusing on poor spacing and explaining how their offensive issues weren’t solely the fault of a thirsty Edwards. The 22-year-old needed to resist the urge to try to take over games all by himself. But the Wolves also had to make sure that the lanes weren’t clogged for his drives, so he would have cleaner reads when the defense collapsed on him. Kyle Anderson and Rudy Gobert followed, each with their critiques and insight into what was going wrong and what the team could do to fix it. That bred more communication that was open, honest and came from all corners, which is exactly what Finch wanted. The last thing he wanted to do was dominate the conversation. “We tried to tease a lot of discussion out of the team,” Finch said. “When a team is talking to itself, you know you’re going to get somewhere faster.” -via The Athletic / February 5, 2024
