Curwensville Softball Blanks Lady Wolves 8-0.
CURWENSVILLE — The Lady Tide stayed consistent on Tuesday afternoon, collecting eight runs for the second consecutive game on way to an 8-0 shutout victory over the visiting Lady Wolves from Kane Area High School.
Joslynne Freyer tossed another gem for Curwensville and went the distance for the Lady Tide. She threw seven innings of one hit ball and surrendered just one walk. She also recorded 12 punch outs and threw just 87 pitches with 58 of those pitches being strikes.
“I have been very impressed and proud of Freyer’s performances on the mound to begin the year,” said Curwensville Head Coach Allen Leigey of his ace. “She has held opponents to just one run in two games so far and I hope to continue to see that from her as the season goes on.”
On offense, Curwensville was able to get out to a quick two to nothing lead as center fielder Abby Pentz led off the home half of the first by reaching on an error. Logan Sheeder followed this up with a single to put two runners on with none out. After some great base running from Pentz, she advanced to third on a steal and came home to score on a passed ball to make it a 1-0 game. Later in the inning, Teagan Harzinski was able to connect for a single to score Sheeder and make it 2-0 in the opening frame.
In the second inning, Pentz was able to extend the lead for Curwensville to 3-0 on an RBI groundout that plated Rylee Wiggins. In the third, the Lady Tide extended the lead to 4-0 as Maddie Butler grounded out to plate Harzinski.
In the fourth, Curwensville would plate three more as Pentz, who was one of four Curwensville players to record a multi-hit game, tripled and then was driven in by Sheeder. Freyer was up next and doubled to put a runner on second with two away. MacKenzie Wall was up next and delivered in a big way for Curwensville, launching a two run homer over the center field wall to extend the lead to 7-0 for Curwensville.
The Lady Tide would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Shyanne Rudy connected on her second hit of the afternoon and plated Sheeder for her second run of the evening.
“We found ways to manufacture runs today and got a big two run homer from MacKenzie Wall which was absolutely smoked. I am happy with how we have hit the ball to start the season.”
Kane’s lone hit in the game came off the bat of number three hitter Mia Smith who was one-for-two at the dish with a walk. She accounted for the only base runners to their credit in the game.
Curwensville (2-0) is averaging eight runs per contest to begin the year and will next take on Elk County Catholic in a road matchup set for 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 8.
