5 trades we want to see before the 2022 NFL trade deadline
Aaron Rodgers gets a new wideout. So does Daniel Jones. Hey, one of those guys is 6-1 as a starter this season!
The NFL trade deadline is more relevant now than any other time in the past two decades. Last week’s Christian McCaffrey trade proved it.
The San Francisco 49ers gave up second, third, fourth and fifth round picks to free McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers’ rebuild and hopefully minimize the impact of Jimmy Garoppolo’s persistent mistakes behind center. While that move didn’t end in a Week 7 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, it did look promising. McCaffrey not only ran for 4.8 yards per carry in limited touches but averaged 13.5 yards after catch on his two receptions — a trait the Niners covet.
McCaffrey won’t be the only veteran on the move as November 1 approaches. Recent trade deadlines have seen multiple Pro Bowlers moved as in-season deals become more and more common. With playoff bids open in both conferences, teams on the brink of contention will feel the pressure to make a Niners-esque splash of their own.
There are several deals likely to happen. There are also deals *I* want to see, which aren’t necessarily the same thing. These are the trades I’d be itching to make if I were the general manager of all 32 teams or, much more realistically, a bored dork lording over a handful of Madden rosters while trying to execute an entirely-too-realistic simulation.
