Fans and players were evacuated from Raptor-Pacers game after speaker catches on fire
Tell us what song they played on the speaker.
When people say this league is “fire,” they generally don’t mean it literally. On Saturday night in a game between the Raptors and Pacers in Toronto, the flames were very real.
The contest was interrupted as fans and players were evacuated from the Scotiabank Arena with 4:01 remaining in the second quarter after a speaker caught on fire.
No one was hurt during the incident, but the game was suspended in the interest of public safety as firefighters were called in to put out what was deemed a two-alarm fire. There were concerns that the speaker could potentially fall.
When the game was paused, Toronto held a 66-38 lead over struggling Indiana.
The game would eventually resume, but it was in front of an empty arena as fans were not permitted to return to their seats.
Jokes aside, it’s a bummer that fans who bought tickets didn’t even get to see a full half of basketball. Luckily, the Raptors plan to provide refunds.
It was certainly a bizarre incident, but luckily, it appears no one was harmed and the teams were able to finish the game. Here were some of the best images from the scene.
