I kinda want my franchise QB to let me know if they see a UFO
Thank you, Baker.

Yes, that is a very weird headline. And no, I wasn’t on any hallucinogenic drugs when I wrote it.
If you’re wondering what’s going on right now I’ll fill you in the best I can. Basically, it’s the NFL offseason and not much is going on in the league now that J.J. Watt has found a team.
Well, not much was going on in the league until Browns QB Baker Mayfield tweeted that he and his wife saw a UFO near Austin while driving home from dinner.
His tweet read: “Almost 100%, Em and I just saw a UFO drop straight out of the sky on our way home from dinner… we stopped and looked at each other and asked if either of us saw it… Very bright ball of light going straight down out of the sky towards Lake Travis. Anybody else witness this?”
That’s some pretty random NFL offseason stuff right there. It’s the kind of stuff where we all have a laugh while quietly questioning if we’re really all alone in this universe before going on with our mundane Thursday in the beginning of stupid March.
But then Colin Cowherd, who gets paid a lot of money to say silly things on radio and TV, took a predictable turn on his FS1 show by saying that he doesn’t want his franchise QB seeing aliens in the offseason and that Tom Brady, Joe Montana, and Troy Aikman never saw aliens.
Brady, by the way, later had a pretty good question for Cowherd and what the radio host really knows about him.
Cowherd has been going in on Mayfield since before time and the talking head was likely working a troll job with this rant on Thursday. It was a good way to get his name out there during a very quiet time for sports.
But here’s the thing – I kinda want my favorite team’s franchise QB to let me know if he sees a UFO during the offseason. Heck, it would be even better if he left us know if he saw one during the offseason.
Is there anything better in sports than knowing your favorite player is out there thinking of you and warning you of possible aliens? Is there anything cooler than some millionaire QB thinking, “Hey, I wonder if Andy saw that UFO. Let me tweet this out and see if he did.”
I mean, how thoughtful is that?
The best kind of professional athletes are the ones who are great at their sport but also relatable as human beings. A pro athlete stopping on a date night to ask us if any of us saw a ball of fire heading toward a lake in the middle of Texas is the type of stuff we need to know not as fans of football but as earthlings who call this planet home. We are all in this together and nothing says that more than a star QB not being afraid to ask us if he’s alone in what he just saw.
Imagine if a star QB saw a UFO and didn’t even think to ask us if we saw it, too? What kind of jerk would do that!? A big jerk, that’s who!
Just keeping something like that to yourself is pretty damn selfish and says a lot about your inability to lead because leaders aren’t afraid to show their vulnerability. Leaders aren’t afraid to reach out and ask if you have just shared a scary experience with them. Leaders aren’t afraid to tweet out serious questions on the way home from a special date.
What it comes down to is this – if you see a UFO and don’t tell anyone then I don’t want you on my team. You’re not going to be a winner. You’re not a good person. You’re not with us.
Baker Mayfield is with us, no matter if you’re a Browns fan or a Steelers fan. He showed all of us that with his tweet on Wednesday night.
Some things are bigger than football.
Like UFOs.
