NASCAR at Las Vegas Motor Speedway: Starting lineup for the 2021 Pennzoil 400
The starting lineup for NASCAR's Las Vegas race, plus a breakdown of how its determined without qualifying sessions.
After the first three races of the 2021 season, NASCAR is headed west for an abbreviated version of what’s commonly known as the West Coast swing.
The first of two races on the western side of the U.S. is Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (3:30 p.m. ET, FOX), followed by a race the following weekend at Phoenix Raceway.
The season so far has been unexpected, to say the least, with first-time race winner Michael McDowell finishing first in the Daytona 500, Christopher Bell winning on Daytona’s road course and William Byron taking the checkered flag at Homestead-Miami Speedway last Sunday.
Now, on to Vegas, where Kevin Harvick will start on the pole.
Because of the challenges related to racing during the COVID-19 pandemic, most race weekends will not include practice or qualifying sessions. So in the absence of qualifying, NASCAR determines the starting lineup with a formula based on these factors:
25 percent: Driver’s finishing position from the previous race 25 percent: Car owner’s finishing position from the previous race 35 percent: Team owner points ranking 15 percent: Fastest lap from the previous raceHere’s the complete starting lineup for Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas.
