The Brooklyn Nets and their new Big 3 could still fall flat

The Brooklyn Nets finally did something on Wednesday afternoon that all of us saw coming for a while and were just waiting for it to happen – they traded for James Harden, adding a third star to a team that is now a championship or bust squad.

The Nets sent a ton of draft picks and multiple players to Houston to get Harden, who pretty much said farewell to the Rockets in an awkward press conference after Tuesday night’s loss to the Lakers.

Now they have three of the best players in the league in Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Harden.

But they still have some big questions marks, too, that could end up making things very interesting moving forward and might not lead to a championship, at least this year.

First, we have to start with Kyrie, who has been away from the team for a week due to personal reasons that have not been made public. He’s been seen at a club celebrating with his family and there has been a report that he has been upset with the Nets for a while due to their selection of Steve Nash as head coach.

While I don’t know enough to question why he’s away from the team, that part about being upset with the Nets is something to be concerned about. And while Stephen A. Smith thinks Irving should retire, I think we should wait to see where he’s at when whatever is going on off the court gets worked out.

But basketball-wise, Kyrie is currently an issue because he’s currently not playing basketball.

Now let’s look at Harden, who is an unstoppable force on offense and an unquestionable stud when he’s going at things 100 percent. But so far this season he hasn’t been going 100 percent. Instead, he quit on the Rockets and the guys in the locker room as he tried to force Houston to get him out of town. That’s not great leadership at all. We’ll have to see if he’ll be able to flip a switch back to being the player that he can be when he’s happy and if he can go back to being a good teammate.

Now let’s look at what could happen when an if all of the Big 3 are in the lineup and playing the way they’ve played their entire careers. Are they going to be able to share the ball and be able to gel when things are in crunch time and they all want to take the big shot? Or will the offense resemble this hilarious video that a ‘NBA 2K’ fan made, with each star dribbling forever before settling for a bad shot?

The Nets definitely are the team to watch now in the East but it’s not all because of good reasons.

They have a lot of time to figure things out – depending on whenever Kyrie comes back – and should be a team nobody wants to face in the playoffs.

But they could also fall a bit flat, too. Which only adds to their must-see factor.
