6 things we learned from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7 trailer

Here's the definitive breakdown of every detail you need to see in the trailer.

It’s finally time. The trailer for season seven of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has arrived.

Disney is about to put a bow on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series a full five years after the series’ sixth season premiered on Netflix.

Season six, better known as “the lost season,” was effective in setting the table for Revenge of the Sith and everything that followed it after. Yoda began to sense the shift in the force, Order 66 had been firmly established as a thing by rogue clones and Ahsoka Tano left the Jedi Order.

The table is perfectly set. We essentially know what comes next, but this season looks like it’s going to walk us right up to the breaking point for everything in the Star Wars universe.

Obi-Wan! Mace Windu! DARTH MAUL!?!? Fam, they’re pulling out all the stops for this one. There’s so much to take in here and we have so many questions.

I did my best to sort through it all for you. Here are the six biggest takeaways from the new trailer.

6. Mandalore seems to be important here

In the very first scene of the trailer, there’s a ship approaching a pale-yellowish planet that appears to look very similar to what we know Mandalore looks like.

Then we get a quick shot of former Death Watch lieutenant and future leader of Mandalore Bo-Katan Kryze, looking at some sort of rubble and destruction.

Kind of an eerie scene, honestly. Maybe we finally get an in-depth look at the fall of Mandalore? Hopefully so. It’ll teach us so much more about the planet. Perfect timing, too, with The Mandalorian heading into season two later this year.

5. The Jedi know something is going down

Mace Windu and Yoda are seen talking to Obi-Wan Kenobi about a plot to destroy the Jedi, so they know what’s going on. They obviously don’t know that it’s Order 66, but they know something is about to go down.

This makes a ton of sense. If you remember, in the Revenge of the Sith movie, Mace Windu and some members of the Order got the jump on Emperor Palpatine and had him dead to rights before Anakin stepped in and… well… Anakin’d.

4. The clones actually don’t like the war they were made for

There’s a revelation in the trailer that the clones have “mixed feelings” about the war. This is extremely fascinating on a few levels.

The first and most important one is that these clones were actually manufactured for the war by the Republic. We knew some clones avoided carrying out Order 66 and defected from the Republic, but we didn’t know they had these feelings about the war while they were fighting it.

Second, this all happens right before Order 66 takes out the Jedi Order. In the Lost Season, Fives, who was one of the clones, suffered from a malfunction that revealed Order 66 — though no one believed him. You have to wonder if some of these mixed feelings stem from that incident.

I hope they dive deep into this part.

3. Darth Maul is back after taking a massive L

The last time we saw Maul, he got his butt kicked by Emperor Palpatine, who also killed both his brother (Savage Opress) and his mom (Talzin).

Apparently, he’s back with some post loss clarity. His voice is first in the trailer. The first words he says are “Soon, the galaxy will be remade. The Jedi and the Republic will die.” The next time we hear him, he says “Part of the plan, THE plan. Everything is going to change.”

Extremely accurate. It seems like he plays some part in it all — I’m just curious as to what.

2. MORE EVIL ANAKIN

We only saw but so much of the Darth Vader come out of Anakin Skywalker in the first six seasons of the Clone Wars. There seems to be quite a bit of him in this one, judging by this trailer.

Here he is pulling up on some evil looking Harch (spider person) with the saber out. Looks downright sinister.

And this is him after chopping off a droid’s head.

Wouldn’t mess with that dude, yo.

1. Ahsoka Tano begins the walk down her path

“Every choice you’ve made has led to this,” Darth Maul tells Tano as they prepare to fight. There’s some battle going on outside of wherever they are.

It’s tough to figure out what they’re fighting about. Could it have something to do with Mandalore? The war in general? The future of the empire? No idea. What I can tell you is that this is going to be good.

This could be the moment where Tano gets set to become a leader in the rebellion. Maybe she’s trying to prevent the Empire from taking over. This could be how she lands on the “Fulcrum” mantle she took on in Star Wars Rebels. We’ll see.
