5 biggest surprises from Sunday: It's time for the Cowboys to fire Jason Garrett

Jerry Jones needs to do something.

Sunday’s NFL Week 6 action started early in the morning with a brutal game by Jameis Winston and the Bucs and ended with an even worse game for Philip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers… but a number of big things happened between those two games.

The Dallas Cowboys lost a stunner to the winless Jets. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs lost their second straight game, both of which were at Arrowhead. And Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns suffered another tough loss in which the QB’s struggles were on full display.

Let’s take a look at the biggest surprises from Sunday:

1. The Dallas Cowboys need to make a change after loss to Jets.

This is the type of game you can’t lose but the Cowboys found a way to do just that at MetLife Stadium when their two-point conversion attempt failed in the final minute. The Jets came into this game 0-4 and fans were already yelling for first-year coach Adam Gase to be fired. Sam Darnold made his return from mono and burned the Cowboys on a long 92-yard TD as the Jets jumped out to a 21-3 lead before winning 24-22. The Cowboys have now dropped two straight and the yearly tradition of fans calling for Jason Garrett’s job has begun. And now it feels like it’s time for them to say goodbye to their coach because it’s starting to feel like this season is going to go like many others in the past with Garrett in control. The offense is way to predictable and this talk is going to only grow stronger on as the season goes on. A move by Jerry Jones would show the team that this year isn’t like other years and then maybe things will end differently. It’s worth a shot.

2. What the heck is going on with the Chiefs?

Last week the Colts left Arrowhead with a win. This week it was Deshaun Watson and the Texans who took home a W in Kansas City. Patrick Mahomes rebounded Sunday with three touchdown passes but the Chiefs’ defense continues to be a weakness for a team that has so many weapons on the offensive side of the ball. The Chiefs are now 4-2 and two games back of the Patriots for the best record in the AFC, which is a considerable amount considering how good the Patriots are playing right now, especially defensively. Good news for the Chiefs is that they play Denver this week (Thursday night) and the Broncos are dreadful even despite their win over the Titans on Sunday.

3. These Rams aren’t the 2018 Rams.

The defending NFC champs looked awful in Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers, who are now 5-0 and very much legit. Jared Goff had an absolutely brutal game, throwing for just 78 yards against a very good 49ers defense. Goff got a boatload of money from the Rams in the offseason and it’s not looking like he’s worth it, as many stated before the QB signed his extension. This team that fired on all cylinders just about every week last season now looks very ordinary and sits just a half game above the Cardinals for last place in the NFC West.

4. Baker Mayfield blamed the refs after another loss.

The Browns lost to the Seahawk 32-28 at home on Sunday, as Mayfield threw three interceptions and the team made an incredibly poor play selection when they went for it on fouth-and-goal from the 1 yard line late in the fourth. After the game Mayfield ripped the refs, saying they were “pretty bad today.” That’s not a good look at all from a QB who only has more pressure on him after each one of these tough losses. Cleveland entered the season with so much hype. Now the Browns are 2-4 and have a week off before they travel to New England to face the Patriots in Week 8. Yikes.

5. Somebody actually won the Redskins-Dolphins game.

I was really hoping this game would end in a tie (3-3 would have been perfect) but instead the Redskins got the 1-point win after the Dolphins went for two in the final seconds and called the worst play that completely failed.

NFL Week 6 Awards: This was Sunday’s worst call by a ref.
