Dutch delight as Schippers scorches to gold
Dutch sprint sensation Dafne Schippers thrilled a home crowd by scorching the women's 100m to defend her European title.
Schippers completely dominated the race, surging through the 50-metre mark to clock 10.90sec.
Bulgarian Ivet Lalova-Collio was a distant second at 11.20, just beating off Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji, who claimed bronze with 11.25.
Schippers made her mark at last year's world championships in Beijing, winning 200m gold with the fourth fastest time ever run and also claiming silver in the 100m.
The 23-year-old former heptathlete is the defending sprint double champion from the Zurich Euros two years ago, but will only race the 100m and 4x100m relay at Amsterdam's Olympic Stadium this week.
