France join big-guns in topping pool
Hosts France matched the perfect pool stage records of New Zealand, South Africa and Fiji at the Paris leg of the World Sevens Series on Saturday.
France will play Singapore winners Kenya in Sunday's quarter-final after crucially beating Argentina 26-14 in their final Pool C match.
Captain Terry Bouhraoua and Stephen Parez were both on the scoresheet for the hosts having also notched tries earlier in the day in a 24-12 win over the USA.
"Apart of the last three minutes of the match against Argentina, the overall content of the first two days is good for us," said France head coach Frederic Pomarel.
"We are satisfied, except for those three minutes, but that's not too bad because it gives a little hit on everyone's bottom for tomorrow."
Kenya were narrowly edged out 19-17 by New Zealand in their crucial Pool A clash meaning they finished second in the group. New Zealand will play Argentina in the quarters.
The All Blacks trailed 17-7 at one stage but a try from Rieko Ioane allowed Gillies Kaka to touch down the winning score after the final buzzer.
South Africa were perhaps the most impressive group winners after thrashing Australia 31-0 in Group D as England were eliminated after losing to both those sides.
Seabelo Senatla took his tally to eight tries for the tournament with two in the Blitboks' rout of the Aussies having previously scored four against England and two against Brazil.
Australia face a tough quarter against reigning series champions Fiji, who won their decisive Pool B clash against Samoa, who will now face South Africa, 42-5.
Toulon wing Josua Tuisova was the star for Fiji as he ran through two tackles before getting Fiji off the mark against Samoa to take his tournament tally to five tries.
