Ex-Torino defender Nkoulou set for Watford
Former Torino defender Nicolas Nkoulou had been close to Spezia, but it’s reported he has now agreed a free transfer to Claudio Ranieri’s Watford.
The centre-back is a free agent after his contract with Toro was allowed to expire in July.
The 31-year-old Cameroon international was hoping to get back into Serie A and was linked with Spezia over the last few days.
However, Sky Sport Italia report Nkoulou has now agreed personal terms with Watford and will sign for the Premier League club.
Nkoulou has 122 Serie A appearances under his belt, in which he scored six Serie A goals.
His previous clubs include Olympique Lyonnais, Olympique Marseille and Monaco.
Watford were in the headlines this week already after hiring veteran coach Ranieri to replace Xisco Munoz on the bench.
It is Ranieri’s return to England after a brief spell at Fulham during the 2018-19 campaign, along of course with his Premier League title-winning exploits at Leicester City and taking Chelsea to second place.
