Driver charged in Concord crash that killed 84-year-old man
A 27-year-old man was charged with vehicular manslaughter for a crash that happened near an El Pollo Loco in Concord last year.
MARTINEZ — A 27-year-old man was charged with vehicular manslaughter in an August 2022 crash that killed an 84-year-old man near a popular fast food restaurant, court records show.
Martin Baglien was charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, a felony, in the three car crash that killed 84-year-old Wesley Watson. Baglien has pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance — meaning he did not have to post bail — at a May 26 court hearing.
Baglien is next due in court in August for a preliminary hearing, where a judge will review the charges and decide if there’s enough evidence to uphold them.
That crash occurred a little before 6 p.m. on Aug. 18, 2022.
Police said at the time that the crash occurred after a vehicle pulled out of an El Pollo Loco parking lot on the 1500 block of Monument Boulevard in Concord and was struck by an oncoming car. The force of the collision sent the car that was struck into oncoming traffic, where another car ran into it.
Watson died, but no other injuries were reported. Police said at the time that drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision.
