CT resident fights off armed suspects attempting to steal pricey cat during home invasion
Two men tried stealing an expensive cat at gunpoint during a home invasion in East Haven on Sunday.
The incident was reported just after 3:45 p.m. at a residence in the 100 block of Thompson Street where the suspects tried to enter through a rear slider door, leading to an unsuccessful struggle with someone inside to keep the men out, according to the East Haven Police Department.
Police said one of the suspects kicked through a glass pane on the slider door, allowing both men to enter the residence and demand an expensive cat that belonged to a resident. According to police, the suspects were armed with a gun.
Police said a resident was able to fight off the intruders after several minutes of searching the home for the cat. The animal was not stolen, and no injuries were reported.
The suspects fled the area in a blue BMW.
Detectives from the East Haven Police Investigative Services Division responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Detectives later found the BMW in Hamden and seized the vehicle to process it for evidence.
“The investigation revealed that this was a targeted attack between individuals familiar with each other,” East Haven police Capt. Joseph Murgo said in a statement Monday. “This was not a random incident and detectives are following up on several leads.”
Police are still investigating.
