Two woman treated at hospital following shooting near Yale University
Officers who pulled over a vehicle in New Haven late Sunday discovered a gunshot victim inside was being taken to the hospital.
Two women were injured in a shooting Sunday night near Yale University.
Police officers received a ShotSpotter notification just before 9 p.m. alerting them to several rounds of gunfire in the area of Hazel and Newhall Streets, according to the New Haven Police Department.
Shortly after, officers with the Yale Police Department stopped a vehicle driving quickly on Trumbull Street near Canal Street and learned that an occupant of the vehicle had been shot and was being driven to the hospital, police said.
The victim, a 21-year-old New Haven woman, was taken by police to Yale New Haven Hospital. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to police.
Not long after, a second gunshot victim walked into the emergency room at Yale New Haven Hospital’s St. Raphael campus. The victim, a 27-year-old New Haven woman, had been driven to the hospital after suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
According to police, patrol officers who responded to the scene where ShotSpotter picked up gunshots found ballistic evidence.
The shooting remains under investigation.
