CT man convicted of sexually assaulting two children under 10 years old
A Connecticut man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting two young children in the New Haven and Hartford Counties.
A man has been convicted of sexually assaulting two young children across multiple areas of Connecticut.
Lawrence Maenza, 44, of East Haven was found guilty Thursday following a trial in New Haven Superior Court, according to the state Division of Criminal Justice. Officials said he was convicted of two counts each of first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
According to court records, Maenza was arrested by members of the New Haven Police Department in January 2022 in connection with sexual assault allegations dating back to October 2020. He was arrested again three months later, this time by the Wethersfield Police Department for similar allegations dating back to August 2011, records show.
According to the DCJ, evidence at a combined trial for both cases showed Maenza sexually assaulted two children younger than 10 years old.
Criminal justice officials said the matters were investigated by police in Branford and Wethersfield.
“The State’s Attorney is grateful to the Department of Children and Families and the Center for Children’s Advocacy for their assistance,” the DCJ said in a statement.
Maenza is being held on a $1.2 million bond while he awaits sentencing, which has been scheduled for April 25.
