Pedestrian in ICU after being struck by car in Stamford
A pedestrian was critically injured after getting hit by a car on West Main Street in Stamford on Tuesday evening.
A pedestrian was critically injured after getting hit by a car in Stamford on Tuesday evening, police said.
The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating a serious injury motor vehicle vs. pedestrian collision that occurred on Tuesday evening around 5:14 p.m. on West Main Street near Fairfield Avenue.
According to Stamford police, a 2013 Nissan Rogue driven by a 73-year-old Stamford resident was traveling east on West Main Street as a pedestrian was crossing West Main Street from south to north.
The motor vehicle reportedly struck the pedestrian, identified as a 46-year-old Stamford man, and knocked him to the ground, police said.
The man reportedly suffered critical injuries during the collision, according to police. He was transported to Stamford Hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit on Tuesday and listed in critical but stable condition, police said.
The Nissan driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, according to police.
An initial investigation indicated that the pedestrian was likely not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision, police said. Rainy conditions and poor visibility may have contributed to the collision, according to police
