Cochise is now (5-5) in the conference after they split the doubleheader at home in Douglas, Arizona, on Saturday, March 13. In the first game of the doubleheader, the Apaches turned to RHP Trey Meza for a start. Cochise got on the board first with a bases-loaded walk to make the score 1-0. In the second inning, Yavapai scored four runs to take back the lead. Down five runs in the bottom of the inning, Cochise scored three runs led by Martinez and Crotte. Both Apache hitters drove in runs chipping away at the lead, making it 6-4. Cochise trailed 7-4 in the last inning and was able to push across two more Apache hitters reducing the lead to one run. The Apaches made things interesting in the last inning but fell short by a run in the comeback. Meza took the loss for the Apaches, lasting four innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out nine. Ethan Silcox led the offense with two hits in the game.
The Apaches left no doubt in game two of the doubleheader, winning by a score of 17-3. Joseph Sinclair got the start for the Apaches. Sinclair allowed three hits and two runs over three and a third innings, striking out six. After Yavapai scored one run in the top half of the third inning, the Cochise offense exploded with 16 runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Apaches’ 16 runs came from walks by Makai Desoto, Cameron Crotte, Ethan Silcox, Aaron Marsh, and Gerardo Hernandez, singles by Connor Caskenette and Hernan Yanez, a triple by Yanez, and a double by Desoto. Mason Piert and Marco Ozuna came into the game in relief for Sinclair. Desoto and Yanez both had multiple hits in the game. Desoto had two extra-base hits, including five RBI’s and a home run in the fourth inning.
