Cochise split a doubleheader against Glendale Community College in their first road trip of the year on Saturday. In game one, Freshman RHP Trey Meza got the start for the Apaches. Meza would take the loss for Cochise, surrendering two runs on four hits over six innings, striking out seven, and walking one. While Meza turned in a solid start on the mound and gave Cochise a chance to win the game, the Apaches couldn’t get a run on the board. Cochise out hit Glendale six to four but stranded all eight base runners they had in the game. Connor Caskanette led the offense with two hits in the game. Cochise took the loss two to zero in the first game of the doubleheader.
In game two of the series, Cochise handed the ball to Freshman LHP Joseph Sinclair. Sinclair lasted four and a third innings allowing two runs on two hits, striking out four. Marco Ozuna earned the win for the Apaches. Ozuna lasted three innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out four and walking one. Jose Velasquez and Mason Piert entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Cochise got on the board first, scoring two runs in the second inning on a triple by Hernan Yanez. The Apaches held the lead until Glendale evened things up at two in the fifth inning. Apaches relief pitchers held off Glendale hitters for the remainder of the game until extra innings. Cochise pushed two runs across on a two-RBI single in the top of the tenth inning single by Javier Gutierrez. Glendale scored two of their own in the bottom half of the tenth inning. Cochise secured the victory thanks to thirteen runs in the eleventh inning. Martinez, Ethan Silcox, Aaron Marsh, Javier Gutierrez, Cameron Crotte, and Connor Caskenette all drove in the frame. The Apaches left Glendale with a split after winning the second game seventeen to four.
Cochise gets back to action against Scottsdale Community College Tuesday, March 9, in a conference doubleheader at noon.
