Sundowns have eighth title in sight
Sundowns will lock horns with Ajax Cape Town at Lucas Moripe Stadium today (3pm).
Masandawana are four points clear of Orlando Pirates at the summit. They have attained 56 points in 28 league matches while Pirates are on 52 points after an identical number of matches.
As much as Mosimane is getting closer to his third league triumph, he prefers to put Sundowns ahead of his personal glory.
“It is not about Pitso. It is about Mamelodi Sundowns,” Mosimane said after his played out to a 2-2 stalemate at Harry Gwala Stadium against Maritzburg United on Wednesday.
“I want Sundowns to win their eighth title. That’s the legacy we have to build here. It is not about Pitso. Once it is about the coach it becomes a problem.
“Sundowns must win their eighth title. It is in our hands. I don’t need any favours from anybody.
Mosimane has already won two league title during his tenure at the club. If he wins it again, he will be one title away from being one of the most successful coaches in the league.
The late Ted Dumitru, Gordon Igesund and Gavin Hunt have four league triumphs.
“We’ve got to win against Ajax. They are winning nowadays. It is like that, “ Mosimane said.
“You know, everybody from number seven or eight can still get relegated. So you don’t have to motivate any other person to say you can help us get a draw.
“If you don’t do it yourself, you are going to go to the play-offs. We’ve let ourselves down. We should have wrapped it up long time ago.”
Pirates are breathing down Sundowns' neck but Mosimane doesn’t feel any pressure from his challengers.
“Pressure is when you press from the top. We’ve scored two goals here away. What pressure? Sundowns is used to pressure. Who has pressure? Us? No, if we don’t get three points from the six in our last matches then we don’t want to win the title.
“We have the advantage of winning it at home. I told you guys, I said I don’t think the last three games Sundowns will get nine points.
I also think probably everybody will get six points from the last three games. If Pirates get nine points, all we need to do is to get three points. Three is enough, “ Mosimane explained.
The Tendai Ndoro case can also go a long way in deciding the league title and the battle for relegation.
Ndoro of Ajax Cape Town is facing a case of breaching the Fifa rules by playing for three teams in different leagues in one season.
“No, it has been pending all the time,” said Mosimane.
“We want to win it on the pitch. If we win it on the table then good luck. It is on our hands now. We want to win on the weekend and celebrate.
“What happens after it is other people’s stuff. Really! What do you want? If we lose the league on the table, do I get upset? No. I can’t get upset.” Mosimane concluded.
