WATCH: Pokémon Go reward players for Earth Day
The game developer Niantic revealed a series of events that will be taking place to celebrate Earth Day on the 22nd of April.
Durning Earth Day, the developer will collaborate with local NGOs across the world to gather players in public places, with hopes of getting them to team up and clean up their community spaces.
An update on the Pokémon Go site says, "the Earth Day is a time to appreciate the places in which we live and to find ways to help care for the planet. Pokémon Go hopes that by hosting cleanup events around the world, they will be doing their part".
The Pokémon Go rewards will only be unlocked if enough players attend and take part in the cleanup efforts. The rewards will be unlocked worldwide so that even players who do not have a clean up event hosted in their city, will still stand a chance of recieving a reward.
The rewards are based on the number of attendees that go to the different cleanup events. If 1500 players attend the cleanup events then the reward will be: 2x catch Stardust for Grass, Water-, and Ground-type Pokémon for 48 hours.
If 3000 players attend the cleanup events then the reward will be: 3x catch Stardust for Grass, Water-, and Ground-type Pokémon for 48 hours.
Pokémon Go will be hosting 37 cleanup events in 10 countries including countries like Italy, Réunion, the United States, Spain, Japan and France.
