Arsenal Win 2-0 in USA, Injuries and Positive Saka Contract News
Quick update on our win in the US, beating Everton courtesy of another Jesus goal, some positive Saka news and an injury update from Mikel himself.
We have had more false dawns than Tottenham, and more comebacks than Jesus (not that one) but here we are again. After a flurry of early-year activity, we went quiet, and have now decided to make another return, sending both of our readers into a frenzy. Daily Arsenal news updates will return, and when I can’t be arsed, I’ll whack up a video of some Arsenal moments you have already seen a million times, but won’t mind watching once more.
Anyway, let’s get into the latest Arsenal news, beginning in Baltimore where we spanked Everton 2-0 in the early hours of this morning. We ran out winners thanks to another goal from new signing, like a new signing Gabriel Jesus, assisted by Saka, and the little chilli himself was also on the scoresheet, both goals coming in the first half.
The second half was played with a bit more a makeshift side, and Everton gave up playing and decided to try and injure everyone.
When asked about the trip so far, Mikel Arteta had this to say:
“It’s been great. We didn’t know what to expect, but it was 40,000 supporters here, 35,000 of them Arsenal fans. So thank you so much for them to come. They really make a difference and the boys appreciate that, that’s why they did the lap of honour at the end. Incredible. So happy and thank you…”
Arteta also mentioned that the club are trying to pin down Bukayo Saka’s contract extension this summer, saying:
“We will try. We both have the same intention. It’s a matter of time…”

Arteta revealed that Ben White has a quad problem but is back in training but should be ok for the start of the season, which seems to be coming around very quickly.
He also added that Tierney is still out with a ‘slight problem’, Smith-Rowe with a niggle, and Tomiyasu also out, but he’s played all the injuries down and said they’re a matter of days away. Slightly worryingly Tierney and Tomiyasu haven’t played properly for months, so you do wonder quite how close they really are.
Fabia Vieira is the final player to mention, Arteta has said that he has a foot problem but will train over the next week or so, click here for the full transcript of Arteta’s musings after the game.
All fairly worrying, but if we’re going to take Super Mikel Arteta at his word, then we aren’t too far away from everyone being back and training in time for the opener.
The opener is a tricky trip to Crystal Palace on the 5th of August, Friday night, where Sky has set us up to fail, just as they did last year when we played Brentford with 4 fit players, Vic Akers and Lofty off Eastenders in goal. Everyone else had COVID and the FA hadn’t invented the option of cancelling games in time so we had to play and we lost 2-0.
