Armenian Prime Minister not to resign for constitutional reform campaign period
Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan is not going to resign for the constitutional reform campaign period the way it happened during the parliamentary election campaign in 2012, when he stepped down as Speaker of the Parliament to head the campaign headquarters of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).
At the same time, he stresses that he does not know who will head the RPA's campaign headquarters. "That issue will be addressed next week," he says. He does not rule out, however, that it may be he that will lead the headquarters. He says the RPA has not yet discussed the candidacy for the head of the headquarters. Next week the party's Council will hold a meeting and that issue will thoroughly discussed.
"Certainly, I will take part in the headquarters' activities. However, my participation should not disturb the activities of the Government," he says. When commenting on the intention of the Head of the Union of Armenians of Russia Ara Abrahamyan to run in the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia, the Prime Minister says, "Abrahamyan's party will receive seats in the Parliament if the voters make such a decision."
To note, the constitutional referendum is scheduled for December 6. By ArmInfo's data, Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan will take a leave to head the campaign headquarters. By ArmInfo's data, Levon Zurabyan, Head of the Armenian National Congress Faction, will head the "No!" Front. The New Armenia Movement has announced that its campaign headquarters will be led by the Founding Parliament coordinator Zhirayr Sefilyan.
