Prisoners at Nubarashen penitentiary stop hunger strike
More than 50 lifetime prisoners at the Nubarashen penitentiary in Yerevan that went on a hunger strike earlier this week stopped it today in the morning, Lusine Martirosyan, Spokesperson of the Justice Minister, posted on Facebook.
To note, on October 12, 45 prisoners at the Nubarashen penitentiary in Yerevan went on a hunger strike demanding that they cases should be reconsidered. Later, another five prisoners joined the strike.
On October 15, the relatives of the defendants were picketing the Government building. They gathered at the president's resident too and submitted handed over their request to the president's representative. Relatives of the defendants say that new circumstances have emerged in the criminal cases that may change the court verdicts. However, they say, courts refuse to reconsider the cases.
The protesters told ArmInfo's correspondent that the terms of their relatives may be reduced or they may even be released if the court agrees to study the new circumstances emerging in the criminal cases. They also complained of he incarceration conditions.
