The higher education system needs serious changes, Armenia's newly-appointed education and science minister Levon Mkrtchyan said today.
"The new law on education should ensure this integration and create a more level playing field", he said.
In his opinion, securing self-governance of universities is also very important in terms of offering high quality higher education.
"De-politicization of the education system largely depends on the adoption of the law on higher education and achievement of universities' self-governance", said Mkrtchyan.
The minister also said that currently Armenia is working on a national program of education designed for ten years.
"If this program does not set real tasks, if relevant laws are not adopted, we will lose ten years. There is a draft program that will soon be put to public discussion," Mkrtchyan said.
According to him, the development of another important document - the draft of a new law on higher education- will begin in autumn.-0-
