Russian State Duma speaker remembers 1.5 million Armenians killed by Ottoman Turkey government
Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) speaker Sergey Naryshkin, who is also chairman of the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s (CSTO) Parliamentary Assembly and members of a Russian parliamentary delegation, visited today the Tsitsernakaberd Genocide Memorial in Yerevan to remember 1.5 million Armenians killed by the government of the Ottoman Turkey in 1915-1923.
"It is necessary to remember what happened 100 years ago, so that such tragedies are not repeated. The Russian State Duma adopts a relevant decision each year to expresses its condolences and its position concerning the tragic events that occurred in 1915," he said.
Naryshkin has arrived in the Armenian capital to chair a session of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly's Council that will discuss a set of issues of international and collective security, as well as the current activities of the organization.
CSTO members are Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.-0-
