Armenia to have single medical prescription system
A single medical prescription system will be introduced in Armenia from 2023, while the sale of antiviral drugs by prescription is expected to start later this year.
The decision was approved today by the government. It sets the prescribing procedure, its format, as well as the process of sale of drugs by pharmacies and drugs accounting.
After the decision comes into force, medicines with narcotic and psychotropic substances, drugs that are provided free or under preferential terms, as well as antiviral and sedatives will be sold by prescription only.
For the rest of prescription drugs, the decision will come into force only in 2023, after the full introduction of the e-health system.
As a result of the decision, of approximately 5,000 medicines registered in Armenia, only 13% will be included in the list of prescription drugs, the rest will be sold by prescription starting from 2023.
The prescription formats have been revised tot to become simpler. The decision provides also for a procedure and conditions for the release of electronic prescriptions. -0-
