Armenia-based mobile and internet operators pay less taxes in 2018 than in 2017
Four Armenia-based mobile and internet operators -VivaCell-MTS, Veon Armenia, Ucom and Rostelecom- paid a total of 20.9 billion drams in taxes in 2018, down from 24.7 billion drams they had paid in 2017, according to figures, released by the State Revenue Committee (SRC). The drop amounted to 15.3%, it said.
The SRC said VivaCell-MTS, Veon Armenia, Ucom and Rostelecom paid 20.7 billion drams in taxes and about 198.7 million drams in customs duties. More specifically, they paid 4.4 billion drams as income taxes, 5 billion drams as payroll taxes, and 10.9 billion drams as VAT and 467.3 million drams as other duties.
VivaCell-MTS paid 8.8 billion drams (13th place in the list of 1000 largest corporate taxpayers in 2018), by 3.3% less than in 2017. Ucom’s taxes increased by 2.4% from the previous year to 6.1 billion drams (21st place). Veon Armenia (trading as Beeline in Armenia) paid 4.6 billion drams (34th place), by 46.3% less than in 2017.
GNC Alfa (trading as Rostelecom in Armenia) paid 1.2 billion drams (128th place), up from 880.8 million drams in 2017.
Overall, the largest 1000 taxpayers paid more than 926.7 billion drams in various taxes last year, by 14.7% or 119.3 billion drams more than in 2017.
Veon Armenia CJSC is part of Veon Group of Companies, which is one of the world's largest integrated telecom operators.
Ucom (Universal Communications) was founded in 2007. It provides high-speed, symmetrical Internet, IP television, digital telephony.
VivaCell-MTS (MTS Armenia CJSC) has been operating in Armenia since 2005. Eighty percent of the company is owned by Russian Mobile TeleSystems OJSC (MTS) and the remaining 20% belong to the Lebanese Fattouch Group investment company.
